Goodreads Summary:
The hotly anticipated third book in the bestselling Bone Season series – a ground-breaking, dystopian fantasy of extraordinary imagination.

Following a bloody battle against foes on every side, Paige Mahoney has risen to the dangerous position of Underqueen, ruling over London's criminal population.

But, having turned her back on Jaxon Hall and with vengeful enemies still at large, the task of stabilising the fractured underworld has never seemed so challenging.

Little does Paige know that her reign may be cut short by the introduction of Senshield, a deadly technology that spells doom for the clairvoyant community and the world as they know it…

Review

The Song Rising was so action-packed and intense it left me breathless and still thinking about it long after I finished reading. This third installment might be my favourite of The Bone Season books yet.

Ms. Shannon brings The Bone Season story to a whole new level diving even more deeply (yes, there is more) into the worlds. Our beloved characters continue to fight the evil that wants to take over the human world and rid the world of the Clairvoyants. Senshield has become an even bigger threat than before. As if that's not enough, ScionIDE, which is essentially Scion's army, marches into the picture. We learn just how far Scion's reach is, how much control it has over other countries and what its plans may be for the future. Essentially every clairvoyant life is at stake.

Paige is now Underqueen of the syndicate. Every bad decision she makes, every wrong move she takes gets scrutinized. Moreover as The Mime order is still a fragile alliance, she faces displeasing the Rathens and losing their support if she doesn't prove herself capable and worthy of their time. This girl cannot catch a break but never underestimate Paige Mahoney. She believes in her cause, fights hard for it and stops at nothing to achieve her goals. She never takes the easy road but always makes it to the end no matter what state she's in. Nobody can say she's not strong or loyal or resilient. She's all of those things and more.

I admit I still get confused by the huge cast of characters. But it's also interesting to learn how some are connected to another. Each person has their own backstory and secrets which serves a purpose to the story as a whole. There are definitely surprises and shocks so be prepared. Though in my opinion nothing beats Jaxon's betrayal at the end of The Mime Order. It was a major blow that we can all agree has us treading more carefully over which characters we can trust. I for sure looked closer at each characters' speech and behaviour in The Song Rising. One can never be too careful when it comes to this series.

Paige and Warden moments give me life. Their forbidden relationship is fraught with danger and fear of discovery. It remains delicate for the foreseeable future making their romance even more delicious and thrilling. Not to mention they make a formidable pair. Even though it's probably too early to start begging, I would really like to see them work out. Please Samantha Shannon!

A tiny spoiler that The Song Rising doesn't end in a cliffhanger. Hallelujah! I'm very satisfied with how the storyline in this book wraps up. Not everything's tidied up but you can tell Ms. Shannon is introducing a whole new chapter to the series. I'm already imagining the possibilities.

I can't wait to see what's on the horizon for this series! I'm nervous but oh so excited! Join in now on this supercharged unstoppable ride that is The Bone Season series. Every book will take your breath away.

  2. Did you give this 6 stars? Did it get the coveted Ripple?

I really loved this one. I absolutely agree on Paige. Girl definitely can't catch a break and she still continues to put herself last. She's a great character in that way. And there were definitely some great twists but nothing beats the end of The Mime Order.

Also, we should DM about this. We always say we will and the last two books we haven't. Feel free to hit me up to talk spoilers.
